Passing Kindness On, One Act at a Time

SHYANN'S HELPING HANDS PROGRAM

Shyann's Helping Hands is a program designed for local youth groups to promote self-esteem and confidence, as well as a sense of the importance of volunteering and community responsibility.

Under the guidance of The Shyann Kindness Project volunteers, groups of young people take the Kindness Gift Giving Program from "start to finish" by organizing a toy and book drive of new unwrapped items, assembling the kindness gift packages, and helping to distribute them at a prearranged event.  Also benefiting from this program are the children who are the recipients of the kindness gift-giving event.

Materials that are available include toy and book drive signage, brochures, kindness cards, newsletters and donation receipts.  Brochures are also available in Spanish.

For more information about this program, please contact Sandy Rosati at 520-749-4021 or
Shyannsmom@Shyannkindness.org.

RINCON VISTA MIDDLE SCHOOL
2011

This was the third year students from Rincon Vista Middle School raised money to purchase items in support of The Shyann Kindness Project Annual Christmas Party.  They more than tripled the amount from last year and collected an amazing total of $6,600 by asking family and friends to donate as well as some contributing their own allowance!!

After shopping for gifts, approximately 200 students met TSKP volunteers at Peter Piper Pizza and assembled packages for the Christmas party.  A group of students also volunteered at the party and saw for themselves the smiles they helped put on the faces of the excited children.

Very special thanks to Jenna Elias for organizing this event and to all the staff, students and families for their continued support and help in making it a very special holiday season for families in need.

DESERT SKY MIDDLE SCHOOL
7TH GRADE
2008

The 7th Grade students at Desert Sky Middle School in Vail once again participated in the Shyann's Helping Hands Program.  After collecting a total of $1,800, the students went shopping at Target and purchased toys and other items for kindness gift packages.

Volunteers from The Shyann Kindness Project were once again waiting for the students at Peter Piper Pizza with the materials needed to assemble the kindness gift packages.  After lunch, everyone got busy putting together beautiful packages, each with a kindness card attached.  The packages were then given out to children from the Flowing Wells School District that attended our second annual Christmas Party on December 19!

Special thanks to 7th Grade teachers Jenna Elias, Sharon Goldwasser, and Wendy Smith for organizing the day, and to all the students and families who participated by volunteering and/or with financial donations.

We are very grateful to Desert Sky Middle School for their continued support and participation in the Shyann's Helping Hands Program!

DESERT SKY MIDDLE SCHOOL
7TH GRADE
2007

Approximately 100 7th Grade students from Desert Sky Middle School in Vail participated in the Shyann's Helping Hands Program on December 17.  The students brought in a minimum of $10 each and went on a "shopping field trip" at Target to purchase toys for The Shyann Kindness Project.  Having previously been told of the need for items for older teens, many of the students focused on purchasing items for teenage boys and girls.  They also purchased items to be used for the "free raffles" offered at our Kindness Gift Giving Events.

Volunteers from The Shyann Kindness Project were waiting for the students at Peter Piper Pizza with the materials needed to assemble the kindness gift packages.  After eating lunch, the students got busy assembling a total of 71 kindness gift packages, which were given out at the "Spread A Little Kindness" Christmas Party on December 21.

Special thanks to 7th Grade teachers Jenna Elias, Sharon Goldwasser, Maria Nunes and Wendy Smith for organizing the day, and to all the students and families who participated.

Kindness Gift Package Being Assembled
The following e-mail was received from Stephanie Mendivil, one of the participating 7th Graders:

Dear Mrs. Rosati,

I just wanted to thank you so much for letting Desert Sky Team B be a part of The Shyann Kindness Project. It was such a joy to me to see those many gift packages be piled up in the buckets waiting for needy kids to take them. Unfortunately, I cannot attend the party tomorrow when you hand out the gifts because of other commitments, but I can't wait to see the smiling faces on your website. I know you are a very, very busy woman, so I will make this short and sweet. On behalf of myself and Desert Sky Team B, thank you, both for allowing us to be a part of this gift giving during the holiday season and for doing what you do in honor of your angel Shyann.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Mendivil

BIG (BELIEVERS IN GOD) YOUTH GROUP
(OUR MOTHER OF SORROWS CHURCH)

Fifteen members of the BIG (Believers in God) Youth Group from Our Mother of Sorrows Church participated in the Shyann's Helping Hands Program in October/November 2007.

After collecting new toys and new or "like new" books, they carefully picked out combinations of toys and assembled the kindness gift packages on October 23.  After assembling the packages, they gathered in a circle and prayed a special blessing for the children who would be receiving them.  They also shared some of the ways they spread kindness to others.

On November 10, 2007, members of this group completed the program as they joined The Shyann Kindness Project volunteers in bringing the Kindness Gift Giving Program to children at Gospel Rescue Mission's Saturday Morning Kid's Club.

Comments from some of the members of the BIG Youth Group:

"Sandy's presentation was eye-opening."
"We had fun putting the packages together."
"This activity was fun!"
"It is cool knowing that the gifts we made could change someone's life."

Special thanks to Group Leader Michelle Benzenhoefer and everyone who participated in this program!
