Passing Kindness On, One Act at a Time

In Loving Memory of Shyann Ariana Rosati

If you'd like to make a financial donation to help us pass on kindness to underprivileged and medically fragile children, please click on the "Donate" button below.  We are very grateful and thank you for donations in any amount!

WHY THE SHYANN KINDNESS PROJECT?

On January 4, 2005, Sandy and Glenn Rosati lost their most precious gift from God, their beautiful daughter Shyann.  Although she was only 7 years old, Shyann touched many hearts in her short life.  At Shyann's Celebration of Life Service, cards were handed out with Shyann's picture, asking that a random act of kindness be performed in her honor, with the recipient being given the card and asked to pass on a kindness and the card.  Since Shyann's death, many people have been inspired to perform acts of kindness in her memory.

The mission of The Shyann Kindness Project is to pass on kindness by educating, supporting and encouraging children in stressful economic, social and medical situations.

The Shyann Kindness Project is a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has served 11,526 children since April 2006 (as of 4/11/12).

HOW IT ALL BEGAN:

In December 2005, a friend of the Rosati family performed an act of kindness in Shyann's honor by wrapping up packages of coloring books, crayons, stickers and books, each with a kindness card attached to it.  She brought them to the children's emergency room at a local hospital, where they were distributed to the children who came in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Shyann's parents, Sandy and Glenn Rosati, founded The Shyann Kindness Project in April 2006, to carry on this wonderful way of spreading kindness.

WHAT WE DO:

Kindness Gift-Giving Program

Kindness gift packages containing a variety of toys, craft items, stuffed animals, etc., are assembled with a kindness card attached to each.  They are distributed at Kindness Gift Giving Events, along with books, backpacks, school supplies, dental items, snacks and other miscellaneous items that are appropriate for each venue.  In addition, "free raffle" items are offered for the children to take a chance on winning.

Kindness Gift Giving Events typically take place twice a month at venues such as schools with very high percentages of free and reduced lunch, shelters for women and children, hospital emergency rooms and low-income clinics, homeless feeding programs, group homes, and clinics for children with special needs, as well as additional venues where children are living in some type of stressful situation.

Kindness Gift Giving Events begin with the children being read a story about kindness and acceptance of others, followed by an interactive discussion that focuses on those issues as well as bullying.  The children are asked to share their ideas of how they can be kind in different situations, including what to do if someone is being bullied.

Annual Christmas Party

The Shyann Kindness Project Christmas Party takes place at a different low-income school each year.  School staff is asked to identify 200 of their neediest children who will not be receiving any other services for the holidays, such as Adopt-A-Family or Salvation Army.

The children and their parents or caregivers are invited to a fun Christmas party where they receive gifts, books, school supplies, and other items.  Clothing, household goods, Christmas decorations, and food items are also available for the families to choose from.

Shyann's Helping Hands

This program is designed for youth groups to promote self-esteem and confidence, as well as a sense of the importance of volunteering and community responsibility.

Under the guidance of TKSP volunteers, small groups of young people take the kindness gift-giving program from "start to finish" by organizing a new toy and book drive, assembling the kindness gift packages, and distributing them at a prearranged event.
